Boca Raton man surrenders in stabbing of another man outside 'hookah' club

One of the founders of the Beta Chi Theta fraternity at Florida Atlantic University turned himself in Tuesday afternoon for allegedly stabbing an acquaintance in parking lot.

Jasneel Singh, 28, of Boca Raton, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to a Boca Raton Police arrest report, Singh spent some time with his friend and two others at the "Hookah Hut" in Boca Raton Monday night until the bar closed. Afterward, the four went to Singh's Mercedes where they listened to music and smoked marijuana until around 2 a.m. Tuesday. When two of the men - whose names are withheld in the report - called it a night, Singh followed them to their car to say good-bye.

Singh shook the 21-year-old driver's hand and walked over to his 20-year-old passenger to shake his hand. But, according to the report, instead of shaking his hand, Singh, stabbed him with an unknown object.

Though the 20-year-old felt a "pinching sensation," he didn't figure out that he had been stabbed until his shirt got "darker" and felt pain in his stomach area, according to the report. He was driven to Boca Raton Regional Hospital where his injury was deemed "non life threatening."

Singh would also later share with his passenger, a 30-year-old whose name is also withheld in the report, that he had "committed a crime today," the report stated.

"Singh said he did it because he believed (the 20-year-old) stole something from him and he was talking (badly) about the fraternity," the officer noted in the report. "Singh told (his friend) that he stabbed the (20-year-old) with his Swiss Army knife."

Boca Raton Police initially tried tracking down Singh, who had fled to Orlando. But police later received a phone call around 11 a.m. Tuesday from Singh's attorney stating that Singh would surrender himself at the department, the report stated.

By 3:50 p.m., Singh had turned himself in.

An earlier version of this story stated that the man who was stabbed was a former fraternity brother of Singh. It was later clarified however, that the man only "rushed" with the fraternity but was never a registered member.
