A man died and five other people were injured Wednesday in a big rig accident in Modesto, California. Reports indicate that the driver of a big rig truck failed to stop for slowing traffic causing a catastrophic crash. The accident which happened on Highway 99 in Modesto, CA resulted in a five car collision according to CHP.
Upon further investigation and witness statements the big rig which was traveling behind the other vehicles involved in the accident, crashed into the rear end of a Nissan which resulted in a “chain reaction of crashes.” The Nissan was pushed into the other vehicles.
The man driving the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident; the passenger of the vehicle was immediately rushed to a local hospital with catastrophic injuries. There were four other people that were treated with minor injuries.
The southbound lanes on Highway 99 were closed shortly after the accident occurred.
There is no further information on the accident as investigations will continue through the night.
