The driver was 69-years-old and from Miami. The driver had been driving on Pierson Drive, a private dirt road in Wellington. After the accident in Florida , the driver was partially pinned to the ground. There were two passengers in the golf cart as well; one of the passengers was 52-years-old, while the other was 73.

At some point while driving along the road, the driver began moving the wheel back and forth while accelerating the cart. This caused the cart to overturn. It is possible that the driver was moving the wheel back and forth due to medical reasons. After the accident, one of the passengers had minor injuries; the other wasnÂ’t injured. The driver was hospitalized with critical injuries at Delray Medical Center. His condition was later downgraded to serious, but stable. As of early Saturday evening, the driver was in the trauma intensive care unit.
