It’s all change for divorce in England and Wales but is anybody ready?

From tomorrow (April 6th) a new set of divorce rules will come into effect in all county courts in England and Wales and with the new rules come new forms and new terminology as the court service attempts to bring the procedure of a divorce into the 21st Century.

The rules introduce changes in terminology as well as procedure. Decrees of divorce will henceforth be known as matrimonial orders, and financial orders will replace ancillary relief proceedings. They place a greater emphasis on mediation, and aim to simplify the way the courts are run.

Guatemala presidential divorce faces challenge

GUATEMALA CITY — A group of lawyers filed suit to block the divorce being sought by Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom that would allow his wife Sandra Torres de Colom to seek the presidency.

Judge Mildred Roca said the petition filed in the Central American nation's Supreme Court seeks to "suspend the process of divorce" of the first couple.

Somali pirates on parade

One Yemeni and 13 Somali pirates who hijacked an American yacht and killed four Americans in late February off the coast of Oman have been indicted in a U.S. civilian court where they will be given all the protections guaranteed in our criminal justice system -- free lawyers to plead their case, presumption of innocence, and if convicted a place to sleep and eat for as many years as they are sentenced to serve. No such consideration was granted to the murdered Americans, two couples on a world cruise to distribute Bibles in far-off and often non-religious places.

AUSTIN, Texas - A condemned man is still fighting his execution scheduled for tomorrow in Huntsville, after a district judge ruled that new procedures do not violate state law. Lawyers for Cleve Foster are appealing that decision today, insisting that the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) ignored the need for a public review process before replacing a no-longer available execution drug.

Medical Board OKs Doctor's Settlement

Dr. Clinton Christopher Pittman will pay $5,000 and do 50 hours of community service as penalties for doing kyphoplasty at the wrong place on the spine in July 2009.

Pittman, now practicing in Tampa, was with Radiology and Imaging Specialists in Polk County when he did the procedure at Winter Haven Hospital.
